Arts
Exploration Programs
Arts Exploration is a
category we use to denote artists who have an exceptional gift for
communicating the magic of their artform. Whether introducing students
to folk or classical music or conveying a passion for an instrument,
a style of dance, or a visual art medium, these artists exemplify
the true spirit of the teaching artist.

One
Little Song Can Change The World
Kid
Pan Alley
Kid Pan Alley (KPA) started with a brilliant, yet obvious discovery—kids
make the greatest co-writers. KPA is a national children's songwriting
project developed by Trapezoid's Paul Reisler in which children
are inspired to be creators of their own music and not just consumers
of popular culture. In this musical character development program,
students sing songs written by children to enhance learning about
character education from a child's point of view. Sing and move
with KPA as they introduce songwriting and music to students. Join
Kid Pan Alley and see how one little song truly can change the world.

American
Harp Trio
You've Gotta Have Harp! is an imaginative, interactive, educational
and entertaining program featuring the harp. The artists will tell
stories with the harp, engaging students' imaginations and defying
expectations of how a harp “should” sound. The harp, along with
the voice and the drum as the first instruments, tells the history
of civilization and can be found in every culture across the globe.
The modern harp, an architectural marvel, is capable of producing
over twenty unique sounds, known as tone colors. Through guided
listening, students will hear how composers weave these tone colors
into their compositions.

instruments. Eastern Virginia Brass Trio play the trumpet, horn
and trombone, performing exciting brass music from John Philip Sousa,
Scott Joplin, and Mozart. While the students hear the brass instruments
of the orchestra and band they have great fun buzzing their lips
to familiar tunes, hearing garden hoses played as musical instruments,
using plumbing to learn the concept of valves and even play the
“little tuba.” While primarily a celebration of brass instruments
and the music written for them, this program also touches on the
