Funding Options
Below we have provided some suggestions that are available statewide or in specific regions. If you need additional support, please call the main office of Young Audiences at 1-800-314-ARTS (2787).
From the Virginia Commission for the Arts
- Teacher Incentive Grants
The Teacher Incentive Grant provides financial assistance to teachers who wish to explore new and creative ways of linking the arts with learning objectives in mathematics, science, social studies or English/language arts. The grant award may be used to provide special resources or programs, to hire arts consultants and artists, or to purchase consumable supplies for the project.
Activities may involve visual art/crafts, poetry/fiction, the performing arts, architecture, folk arts or a combination of artistic disciplines. Before submitting an application, all applicants should read the Guidelines for Funding available from the Commission or at www.arts.virginia.gov.
- Artist in Education Residency Grants (Pre-K to 12)
This program provides elementary and secondary students, teachers, and the
community at large, opportunities to work with professional artists. The residencies enhance arts instruction in the school curriculum and highlight the importance of the arts as essential components of a complete education and a valued part of community life.
Each residency must include workshops for a core group of students, at least one formal teacher workshop conducted by the artist, and community performances/exhibitions and activities/workshops. Residencies of ten days or more must also include studio time for the artists. If any residency activities take place outside of the regular school day, transportation should be available so that all students can participate.
Young Audiences of Virginia artists are eligible under the VCA Teacher Incentive Grants and Artist in Education Residency Grants guidelines.
