Reading Matters Special Event

The Sixth Annual Young Audiences of Virginia Reading Matters Event will be held May 6, 2012 at the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club from 1:30pm-4:00pm!

Decades of research conclude that parents who spend time, sharing books, and reading to their children are a critical factor in supporting children's school readiness. Unfortunately, the frequency with which parents read to their children tends to depend on the dynamics of the family, with less than 50% of parents reading to their children every day. At Young Audiences of Virginia, we like to focus on things that are important – our children. We launched Reading Matters with the intent of reversing this trend by ensuring that more children experience how the artistry of books opens imaginations and possibilities.

The enthusiasm for making reading fundamental to childrens' success in schools is evident in your support of our Reading Matters. Please know that if you are a volunteer, committee member, or donor, your act of kindness in no small way supported the literacy needs of children in Hampton Roads.

When you plant a seed, a big mighty oak will grow that can provide a life skill for countless families and children. So every bit of support that nurtures the seeds of literacy is big.

To discuss options for supporting and sponsoring Reading Matter this year, contact Rebahka Scaccia, Development Director at developmentdirector@yav.org, or by calling us at 800-314-ARTS.
