Language
Arts Programs
While some may argue that
the arts form a language of their own, they also utilize and are
inextricably linked to the language of the culture from which they
arise. Some of these links are obvious. Theatre, poetry, song, and
storytelling rely on language arts, but music and dance also make
literary connections.
As children experience sophisticated word play, through hearing
poetry and theatre, they form a richer language base and capacity
to express themselves. By exploring the ways that literary themes
can be expressed in music and dance, students deepen their understanding
and ownership of the timeless themes that artists return to again
and again.
